New Year, Better Mental Health Habits

We all probably thought this day would never come, but here we are — January 1st, 2021. It’s finally here. Peace out 2020 and good riddance.

Surviving 2020 is already a big accomplishment and with the year 2020 has been, I think it’s safe to say that we can take on anything. But the best is yet to come.

Prioritizing your mental health has been a big realization for many in 2020. Moving forward, I want us to better our mental health and learn how to handle our internal struggles. We can make it our New Year’s resolution — but you have to keep up with it! If we don’t take care of ourselves and prioritize our happiness, then how can we do it unto others that we care for?

No matter how mentally strong we are or what resources and values we have to take on life’s challenges, we must learn how to keep ourselves going and prevent shutting down completely.

Choosing happiness first does wonders for your mental health.

This involves doing what makes you happy and what you enjoy in life, even if it’s just the little things. If saying NO pertains to that, say it with confidence. It’s not selfish at all so get that sh*t out of your head!

Choosing your own happiness can involve starting a new exciting hobby, learning something new, decluttering your personal space, unlocking nostalgic memories, exercising, complimenting yourself, trying new foods, getting in touch with an old friend, treating yourself or setting up goals for yourself to feel accomplished once completed.

Put energy into something that will benefit you and attract that energy back within you.

In 2021, we are not wasting any more time with something that isn’t good for us, so say sayonara! Just like the different ways we can choose happiness, once we know what that is, putting energy and time into it, even if it’s starting small, it matters for you.

Putting in the energy in something we want to do makes us want to feel, especially if the feeling is good. We all crave that mental juice so take a sip if you’re ready to manifest that energy!

Go to therapy or try online therapy.

I know therapy can be expensive, but if you do have the funds or can save up the money, go to therapy this year! Take a new step to change and improve your mental health. It’s not an easy journey, but it is definitely a rewarding one.

It’s definitely for people who are ready to change themselves and their lifestyles so if you think you’re ready to make this big choice, this is your sign to go and start therapy.

Avoid and prevent drowning in negativity.

Even if it means dropping someone who attests to this in 2021. If they are not fulfilling you in any way, say sayonara to that too!  It is another crucial thing to look at when bettering your mental health. There’s no doubt that there will be challenges and bad times in 2021, but it’s all a part of our growth as human beings.

Embrace them and know that it’s all temporary. The good and the bad are both needed to learn who we are and how we want to live our lives. Take it one day at a time and it will bring you resilience and strength like no other.

Get a good night’s sleep and wake up earlier.

Practicing this will not only do you justice in putting you in better moods, but it also will give you more energy throughout the day to tackle more tasks.

Self-care!

Taking a day for yourself is crucial. Focus on yourself by doing self-care acts such as taking naps, listening to peaceful music, practicing different skincare techniques, taking a day off and overall whatever makes you feel at peace and giving yourself a break.

It’s not a crime to do this once in a while. Plus you would be doing yourself a favor by taking a “me day.” A break is well needed to get you mentally going the next day.

Practice mindfulness.

Take awareness of what you want to become. Meditate and build inner peace.

We are in control of our emotions and what we pay attention to. Even if we are not quite good at it yet, we must focus on controlling what we want our minds to be. It’s a tough task, but definitely possible!

Prioritize your mental health by doing any one of these activities or more. Make it a habit! Practice it every day until you got it packed down.

Be there for one another and spread kindness and love all around. Everyone goes through troubles in their head. You never know who’s hanging on by a thread trying to fight their own demons We’re all in this together. Stay safe, Happy New Year, and let’s make 2021 our b*tch!
