Saint Peter’s Prep Freshman Comes Out On Top In The 100 Meter Dash Yet Again

Saint Peter’s Prep Freshman Jevon Ledgister earned himself the title as two-time Freshman National Champion in the 100 meter race this past Thursday at the New Balance Nationals.

His race time of 10.55 set a new meet record at the 100 meter dash too. Ledgister was first out of 96 boys competing.

But this isn’t Ledgister’s first big victory for the Saint Peter’s Prep Marauders; earlier this month he took home the gold medal in the 100 meter dash at the NJSIAA Meet Of Champions (MOC). It was the Marauders first win in over a decade.

Kearny High School Shot Putter Fixes Town’s 20 Year Drought

Senior Gabi Pifano of Kearny High School became the first athlete from Kearny to medal in the NJSIAA State Outdoor Track Meet Of Champions (MOC) in over 20 years.

Pifano, who will be throwing at East Stroudsburg University next season, received eighth place in shot put with a throw of 39-07.25.

The eighth place finish marked a turnaround for Pifano. Pifano suffered an ankle injury late in indoor season and did not even reach the 35-foot mark until the North Jersey, Section 1, Group Championships, less than three weeks ago.

“I always knew I had the potential, I just wasn’t there yet,” Pifano said. “I don’t think I would’ve seen myself come this far after the (regular) season I had, but I knew I had to try.”

“It was a goal I’ve been trying to hit all season,” Pifano said. “I knew the throw was going to be good once I entered into the circle. When I heard the mark, I started jumping up and down and ran to Coach.”

“I just saw it in her eyes. She was focused and confident,” said Kearny’s throwing coach Scot Weaver. “There was no drama in her eyes, no rattled, no anxiety, just let’s go.”
