A Saint Peter’s Prep freshman sprints for gold, lacrosse season nearing the end, nominate a senior student-athlete and more in this week’s Hudson County sports news roundup.

Make Father’s Day A Slam Dunk

Fathers can stay active this coming Father’s Day thanks to a local basketball clinic and tournament.

Coach K, Coach Ron, and the Men With A Vision team at Bay Rutgers Park are hosting a special Father’s Day Skill-Building Basketball Clinic & Tournament.

The clinic will take place on Saturday, June 14
 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Baby Rutgers Park, located at 329 Johnston Avenue in Jersey City. All ages are welcome.

Participants can sharpen your game with hands-on drills and expert guidance. There will also be a DJ, music, activities, food and vendors.

After the clinic, there will be a 12-Team single-elimination basketball tournament from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

No registration needed. Donations are welcome.

Cast Your Vote For ‘Outstanding’ Senior Student-Athletes On The Field Or In The Community

Zebra Pen, a New Jersey-based company, is collaborating with the NJSIAA and is looking to celebrate local senior student-athletes.

“Whether it is for a performance on the playing field or an achievement in the classroom or community, nominate a deserving senior below. All nominations will be compiled for selection,” they wrote in the form.

West New York Celebrates League Champions

The town of West New York flooded congratulations to the Elite Tigers who won their league championship as they wrapped up at the end of May. 

The Elite Tigers basketball team won 19-14.

Jevon Ledgister Speeds To Saint Peters Prep’s First Outdoor MOC Gold Medal 

Celebrations are in order as freshman sprinter Jevon Ledgister of Saint Peter’s Prep won the gold medal in the 100 meter dash this past Thursday at the NJSIAA Meet Of Champions (MOC).

Ledgister finished the race with a time of 10.41. 

This gold medal is Saint Peter’s Prep’s first win in 14 years. Their last Meet Of Champions gold medal came in 2011 and was won by Najee Glass. 

Saint Peter’s Prep Lacrosse Falls In The Second Round Of The NJSIAA Non Public

After a solid season, Saint Peter’s Prep Lacrosse fell short to Seton Hall Prep 15-3 in the NJSIAA Non Public 2nd Round.

Tommy Blunda, Ryan Murphy and Ignacio Mateo each had a goal. 

The Saint Peter’s Prep Marauders had an even record of 4-4 for the month of May and an overall winning record of 9-8. 

Seton Hall Prep currently holds a record of 18-3 after defeating the Marauders in the second round of the NJSIAA and Bergen Catholic in the quarter finals. 

Seton Hall Prep will take on Don Bosco Prep on June 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the NJSIAA Group Tournament final. 

The Marauders look to build on the solid squad they had this season and make a bigger impact next season on the lacrosse field.
