The Hudson County Chamber Foundation is looking to impact over 100 Hudson County nonprofits this week. Their goal is in sight: raise a collective $1 million.
The sixth annual Hudson Gives Day will be on Thursday, May 9. The virtual fundraising campaign runs for 24 hours and allows donors to choose from roughly 108 local nonprofits to donate to. Christine Perez, of Jersey City’s nonprofit York Street Project, told Slice of Culture how significant the giving day has been.
“For York Street Project, this is an opportunity to engage donors as champions and partners. Hudson Gives has a tremendous impact on our mission to provide an environment to shelter, feed, educate and promote the healing of persons in need, especially women, children, and their families. Breaking the cycle of poverty for families experiencing homelessness requires lots of community support,” Perez told Slice of Culture in an email.
“Through Hudson Gives we are able to achieve the support of many and ultimately, better serve the young families in our care.”
According to Perez, in the first 24 hours of the open giving period, Hudson Gives collectively raised more than $20,000, with about one third of the nonprofits receiving at least one donation.
And now, this year, Hudson Gives is aiming to raise a collective $1 million for the local nonprofits participating. Additionally, the Hudson County Chamber Foundation along with Hudson County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Emory Edwards are sponsoring different prizes for the nonprofits who record the “most unique” donors.
While Hudson Gives Day falls on May 9, people are able to donate to the participating nonprofits until May 17.
Their website also provides nonprofit toolkits and training videos for nonprofits who participate in the fundraiser.
“By giving local, we can lift all of our neighbors and strengthen our nonprofits,” the website reads.
