Hudson County Post-Game: Harrison Pulls Off Three-Peat, St. Peter’s Prep Gets Revenge And More

New Jersey and the world have been preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but MetLife Stadium is having another big event this coming summer; Hudson County named two champions this weekend in the county’s tournament championships in high school baseball and volleyball; and more that’s happened this past week.

All You Need To Know About FIFA Club And FIFA World Cups

Hudson County continues to prepare and excite locals for the upcoming FIFA World Cup coming in 2026 that will take over MetLife Stadium for multiple games, including the final.

But before that, the FIFA Club World Cup is also hitting up MetLife Stadium with a number of games, including the final set for July 13. 

Here’s the schedule for the FIFA Club World Cup:

  • Sunday, June 15 | Group A, Match 4: SE Palmeiras (São Paulo, Brazil) vs.FC Porto (Porto, Portugal) – 18:00; 6:00 p.m. EST.
  • Tuesday, June 17 | Group F, Match 9: Fluminense FC (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) vs. Borussia Dortmund (Dortmund, Germany) – 12:00; 12:00 p.m. EST.
  • Thursday, June 19 | Group A, Match 17: SE Palmeiras (São Paulo, Brazil) vs. Al Ahly FC (Cairo, Egypt) – 12:00; 12:00 p.m. EST.
  • Saturday, June 21 | Group F, Match 27: Fluminense FC (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) vs. Ulsan HD FC (Ulsan, South Korea) – 18:00; 6:00 p.m. EST.
  • Monday, June 23 | Group A, Match 36: FC Porto (Porto, Portugal) vs. Al Ahly FC (Cairo, Egypt) – 21:00; 9:00 p.m. EST.
  • Saturday, July 5 | Quarter-final: Winner Match 55 vs. Winner Match 56 – 16:00; 4:00 p.m. EST.

St. Peter’s Prep Baseball Takes Home Third Hudson County Tournament Title

The St. Peter’s Prep Marauders walked away with their third Hudson County title in four years.

The Marauders defeated the No. 1 seed Union City High School 2-1 at the Miller Stadium in West New York earlier Saturday afternoon.

Lorenzo Camilleri put up two home runs to ultimately secure the win, while Anthony Huaranga sealed their defense with 11 Ks (strikeouts).

Both the Union City Soaring Eagles and the St. Peter’s Prep Marauders had been dominating the HCIAL conference this season.

The Soaring Eagles held a 17-6 overall record while the Marauders had a 16-6-1 record. Both teams only have one loss in the HCIAL (Soaring Eagles hold an 11-1 and the Marauders hold a 9-1), the now Union City’s loss count goes up to two.

The Soaring Eagles and Marauders also faced off last year in the Hudson County Final. The Soaring Eagles took that game 7-2.

Harrison Volleyball Comes Out On Top

On Saturday, Harrison did what not many teams can do—complete a three-peat.

The No. 10 Harrison Blue Tides shut out No. 11 Hudson Catholic for their third Hudson County Tournament Title, with winning sets of 25-23, 25-15.

“Our kids work really hard and they deserve everything they get,” Harrison head coach Anthony Sabia told NJ.com. “They are champions in every sense of the word.”

Initially, the set was tied at 15 and the Hudson Catholic Hawks were trying to ride off the momentum, but were unable to close. Hudson Catholic Head Coach Fernando Colon said they had “a lot of forced errors” and that the team felt like they were “beating ourselves.”

Kearny Boys Volleyball Looks To Still Close Out Their Season With A Spike

The Kearny Kardinals have been on fire this season and had as much as a nine-game winning streak during April. They currently hold a 13-6 record.

Senior outside hitter Christopher DelRosario leads the team in kills with 131 while senior middle blocker Denzel Holloman leads the team in blocks and aces with 34 blocks and 29 aces.

Despite April being an ace for the Kardinals, the month of May has been a little rocky for them, as they hold a 3-4 record so far this month. Last Monday, they lost to Hudson Catholic in the semifinal round of the Hudson County Tournament, knocking them out of it. 

Still, the Kardinals close out their season at home on Monday, May 19 against Dickinson High School at 4:30 p.m.

This Bayonne Basketball Program Is Set To Begin 

Good news basketball fans and those interested in playing! A Bayonne Youth Basketball Program is launching as a way to promote healthy lifestyles.

The Hudson County Board of Commissioners has recently approved a grant worth $40,000 to fund the NJ Coaches in the Community Basketball League.

The is a seven-week instructional program will tip-off at Stephen R. Gregg Park in Bayonne and aims to teach basketball skills and fundamentals while also encouraging healthy habits and community engagement with local youth. 

The grant specifically funds the instructional basketball program with staffing at location, instructors, uniforms, supplies and even awards.

Hey Soccer Fanatics! Strike And Score Goals At Camp This Summer

The Jersey City Department of Recreation and Youth Development announced its six-week Youth Soccer Camp running from July 7 to Aug. 15.

 The schedule will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Franklin L. Williams M.S. #7, located at 222 Laidlaw Avenue in Jersey City.

The camp is free and intended for kids ages 7 to 14. Kids can participate in this soccer camp all to improve their soccer skills through drills, games, and scrimmages.

This camp is aimed to improve skill development in dribbling, passing, shooting and defending while teaching kids teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship. 

Kids will also compete in daily games and challenges.
