Spider-Man is back.
With the red carpet premiere earlier this week, private showings, and many individuals seeing the movie the day before, it has been increasingly difficult to navigate the internet and social media ahead of the December 17 release date of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Add to the fact that many showings are sold out, or with little seats remaining, it could be a few days before actually watching the movie.
For months, people have waited for an official trailer, and when it finally did release, it quickly became YouTube’s most viewed trailer of all-time.
Marvel had originally planned to not reveal the concept of the “multiverse,” but leaks online forced their hands in having to showcase the villains of the movie.
Let’s take a quick look at the confirmed villains set to appear in Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
Dr. Otto Octavius, aka Dr. Octopus, is the first villain revealed in the trailer.
He is first seen in “Spider-Man 2,” which many people consider not only to be their favorite Spider-Man movie of all-time, but also the best superhero movie of all-time.
“Doc Ock” in the trailer could be heard saying “You’re not Peter Parker.”
Tom Holland is the MCU’s Spider-Man, but there is another Spider-Man in another universe. In “Spider-Man 2,” Spider-Man is played by Tobey Maguire.
Another villain revealed is Norman Osborn, also known as “Green Goblin.” He is also another villain that comes from Maguire’s “Spider-Man.”
Many people consider Willem Dafoe’s performance as “Green Goblin” to be one of the best of all-time.
Max Dillon, also known as “Electro” is the next villain shown. He appears in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” Neither Tom Holland or Tobey Maguire plays Spider-Man in the film. That honor goes to Andrew Garfield, revealing that there is another Spider-Man in another universe.
At the moment, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe and Jamie Foxx, who play Dr. Octopus, Green Goblin, and Electro, are the three main villains being highlighted and marketed over the other two confirmed villains.
In the trailer, Doctor Strange says “They all die fighting Spider-Man.” These three villains all died in their original movies.
Dr. Curt Connors, also known as “Lizard” appears in “The Amazing Spider-Man.”
In the movie, he tried to perfect human imperfections by turning all of them into lizards. The last villain is Flint Marko, also known as “Sandman” who is from “Spider-Man 3.” Both Lizard and Sandman did not die in their original movies.
The biggest question mark remains is if the prior Spider-Men will appear in the film.
Prior to the firm’s movie premiere, there has been no cast listing or confirmation of Maguire or Garfield. Neither were present at the film’s premiere either.
While promoting a seperate movie “Tick, Tick…Boom,”Garfield has been asked if he is in Holland’s “Spider-Man” and has repeatedly denied it.
Across the “web,” comment sections may contain spoilers, algorithms on social media may bring up unwanted spoilers from the movie, that may or may not be true.
If Maguire and Garfield do appear in the movie, fans will be ecstatic, as such a big surprise could be hidden for so long.
Their appearances, alongside Holland, would remind people of a live-action “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”
“Into the Spider-Verse” showcases that there are different versions of Spider-Man across multiple universes.
The last line said by Doctor Strange is “I can’t hold them back much longer!”
If you saw the post-end credits for “Venom 2,” there’s no denying the hype for this movie. All we can hope for is that it lives up to it.
