It’s been two years since the streets of Hudson County have seen 1-2 inches of snow flurries. But this week, Mother Nature graced us with back-to-back storms.

As exciting as it was to see snow fall again, temperatures dropped to freezing amount activating a Code Blue alert throughout the state.

When a storm or severe cold weather hits the area, a Code Blue alert opens up Warming Centers to assist residents or the homeless who may be exposed to frigid weather. These centers can be public libraries, shopping centers, and senior centers and are open during business hours. After operating hours, you would have to dial 2-1-1 or  877-746-5211 for assistance.

The County Offices of Emergency Management works with municipal government to enable the Code Blue Alert and provide shelter arrangements for those who need it. The alert can change quickly depending on the weather and are based on the individual counties. To make sure you keep up with any change, it is recommended to check your county’s Office of Emergency Management website for updates.

Currently there is a Code Blue Alert for Hudson County from Jan. 20 – Jan. 22 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
