The Jersey City Five Corners Library Branch Is Reopening!
The Jersey City Free Public Library (JCFPL) has announced that the Five Corners Branch will reopen to the public tomorrow, Oct. 13! It will also return to its regular operating schedule and scheduled programming, according to a press release.
The reopening comes after the branch restored the cooling and prepared the heating system for the cooler, which were “temporary” repair work and interventions that forced the branch’s closure earlier this year.
“Five Corners Library is an essential institution for the Journal Square community. From the moment my administration learned of its closing, we have been working to get it reopened,” said Mayor James Solomon.
“… Reopening the doors here is an important step, and now we are focused on making sure this branch can serve the community reliably for years to come.”

North Bergen Mayor Announces Retirement
North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco has announced that he will be retiring after 35 years as mayor.

Sacco endorsed North Bergen Commissioner Hugo Cabrera, who is reportedly looking to be the one who will succeed him. This transition would make Cabrera North Bergen’s first Hispanic mayor.
Sacco stated that he is stepping down due to health challenges he has faced over the past year. It was reported that Sacco was recently treated for skin cancer and underwent surgery.
He will leave office later this month and will not run in next year’s election.
“I believe that leaving now is the best thing I can do for my health, for my family, but also for the people of North Bergen,” Sacco stated.
After winning reelection in 2023, Sacco had intended to serve out his full term, which runs through May 2027.
Sacco said that Cabrera “has the experience and the vision needed to step up and serve as the next mayor.”
