Housing Opportunities To Apply To This Month–To Rent Or To Own!
Passaic County Habitat for Humanity is accepting applications for three-bedroom duplex homes in Paterson until Sept. 3. The homes will be sold for $185,000 to applicants who make the minimum income of $97,000 a month and have a credit score of 620 or higher. For more information on eligibility, read here.
Affordable Homes New Jersey has listed one-, two- and three- bedroom apartments for rent across Ocean, Union, Burlington, Somerset, Monmouth, Morris, Bergen, Middlesex and Passaic County with applications due in late August and September, you can view here.

New Jersey Tackles Veteran Homelessness
On July 29, the state’s Department of Community Affairs,Department of Veteran Affairs and Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced a new support system for homeless veterans through the Bringing Veterans Home Initiative, or BVH, which started in 2024.
The veteran and the BVH service provider work together in identifying their obstacles in finding housing, communicating with landlords and filing necessary paperwork with the goal of having the veteran in a stable housing in 30 days.
According to the BVH website, they have received 3,104 submissions as of Aug. 22, 2026.
“No veteran in our state should endure the hardship of homelessness,” said Sherrill in a press release in regards to the new support system.
A veteran, a community partner or someone on the Bringing Veterans Home street outreach team can submit an online referral or make a phone call to NJ Vet2Vet or NJ 211, and the veteran must be contacted within 24 hours.
NJ Transit Looks To Develop Transit-Oriented Housing In Bayonne
NJ Transit is currently looking for partners to develop 4.3 acres of land near Bayonne’s 34th Street light rail station.
The land is currently home to two surface parking lots, mirroring Jersey City’s plans to redevelop existing lots to affordable housing. NJ Transit plans to set aside 20% of apartments for low- and moderate-income families.
In addition to building more housing for the state, the public transportation service seeks to add retail and public spaces to enhance commuters’ experiences.
“The City of Bayonne appreciates NJ TRANSIT’s interest in developing a portion of the 34th Street Light Rail Station property. We look forward to seeing the results from the upcoming request-for-proposals process,” said City of Bayonne Mayor Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski in a press release for Gov. Mikie Sherrill.
