Kearny Generals Football Celebrate Historic Season
The Kearny Generals Pee-Wee and Junior football teams entered a rebuild in 2023 and head coach Omar Ruiz-Martinez has helped his teams progress each year.
This past fall season was a turning point for the Generals. They not only held countless wins, but the type of victories the program has not had in more than twenty years.
The Pee-Wee team, for eight- and nine-year-olds, and the Junior team, for fifth and sixth graders, made the playoffs of the Bi-County Junior Scholastic Football League for the first time in 22 years.

The Junior Generals made it all the way to the final but fell short to Englewood, 12-0, in the title game last Saturday. They finished the season with an 8-3 record.
“It shows that these kids really want to learn and are into the game,” Coach Ruiz-Martinez said about his players’ ability and eagerness to pick the offense.
Ruiz-Martinez’s PeeWee Generals finished their season 7-3 despite limited numbers and experience,
“They were just excited to play and that’s why I’m excited about the future,” Ruiz-Martinez said. “It was a struggle to field numbers (at the beginning) and we expected maybe one win this year. The fact that we had seven, it was an amazing season.”
