NJCU Student Takes Talents To NBC’s ‘The Voice’
Sydney Millevoi, a 2024 grad who earned her B.A. in Music Business and current Master of Music in Vocal Performance candidate at NJCU, will be performing on “The Voice” Season 29 every Monday night at 9 p.m. EST.
Millevoi, of Secaucus, sang Jessie J’s “Mamma Knows Best” and received praise from all three celebrity coaches—music icons Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Adam Levine—during her Blind Audition earlier this month.
“Your vocal pierced through this audience and shook us all to our core,” Levine told Millevoi. “There’s that sense of soul and urgency and passion. Your type of performing is a lost art form that I feel like needs to be thrust back into the spotlight. I am a fan, I am blown away by what you do, and I’ve got to coach you.”
Legend also gave Millevoi his praise stating, “I’’m in awe right now, and I literally have one spot left on my team and I’m like, you were sent from heaven, Syd, to fill that final spot and you can win this competition.”
Millevoi ultimately chose Legend to be her coach on the show. You can watch Millevoi’s audition here.
Millevoi’s mother is a former opera singer and was her first vocal coach, according to a press release from NJCU. By age 11, Millevoi was writing songs and performing. She currently sings in a local wedding band up and down the East Coast. She’s a songwriter who released her own album, “Everything I Couldn’t Say.”
You can watch Millevoi take the stage Monday nights at 9:00 p.m. EST.
“Sydney delivered a powerful performance during the Blind Auditions, and it’s wonderful to see one of our Music, Dance and Theatre students representing NJCU on a national stage,” Amparo Fabra, Ph.D., Interim Associate Dean for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, said in a statement.
Locally, you can catch Millevoi currently starring as Bella in NJCU’s MDT’s spring musical production of “Jagged Little Pill” running from March 20 to 29 at the NJCU Center for the Arts. You can get tickets here.
