Hoboken Girls Soccer Wins The Hudson County Tournament
Last Tuesday, No. 2 Hoboken defeated top-seeded Bayonne, 2-1 to take the Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic League (HCIAL) Tournament girls’ soccer championship.
This was Hoboken’s first win in program history.

Senior midfielder Emma Conway scored the game winning goal. A long free kick that gave Hoboken a 2-1 lead with 21:47 remaining in the game.
Bayonne won the HCIAL championship last season and made it to the final in 2023, ultimately losing to Kearny on penalty kicks.
Hoboken proved they were not satisfied with the HCIAL championship. They soared past Secaucus this past Wednesday with an 8-1 victory in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 Tournament.
Scores are awaiting for Hoboken versus Glen Ridge, which kicked off today at 12 p.m. against Glen Ridge in the quarterfinals.
Kearny Girls Tennis Earns Hudson County Double Title
Kearny High School’s head tennis coach Michael Silpoch knew before the season even started that Kamilly Bravo and Keyla Petrillo would do big things together if they ended up on the same doubles team.
“Throughout the reasons, what I thought would work tremendously well was if Keyla took the jump up to first doubles and Kamilly stayed at first doubles,” Silpoch told The Observer.

On Oct.14, Bravo and Petrillo defeated Bayonne’s Leanna Yun and Michelle Lin, 6-4, 6-4, to win the Hudson County Tournament First Doubles Tournament title.
“It didn’t take us too long,” Petrillo said. “I think we were just good playing together. We have similar playing techniques and we are strong at different things, which really helped us. She is strong at ground shots and at the net, and we just worked really well together.”Overall, Bravo and Petrillo were 10-0 heading into their final match of the season against Hoboken on Oct. 27. They ultimately fell to Hoboken 4-1.
