Harrison Tennis Students Got To Experience The U.S. Open
For days, the U.S. Open took over TV and social media with headlines about highlights from the annual tournament. And, for one of the days, Harrison tennis students got to experience it up close and personal.
Washington Middle School’s physical education teacher, Ula Stryjecka and United States Tennis Association (USTA) Net Generation Program provided the tickets to the students.
The students, ranging from middle to high school, got to watch the matches and also play tennis in the 14,000 seat Louis Armstrong Stadium, in Flushing Meadows, Queens, New York plus on-court professional interviews.
“I really enjoyed my time at the US Open. I had the opportunity to watch incredible tennis players give it their all on the court, play on one of those courts myself, and learn more about tennis. I had a wonderful time and would love to visit again,” eighth grader Daniela Alban said.
According to The Harrison Team on Facebook, students on the trip included: Daniela Alban, Lucas Zhang, Davi Santos, Kevin Krasuski, Cristian Vasquez, Khushal Varshney, Hamza Adraoui, Brianna Sierra, Jonathan Castro, Emily Castro, Yun Lin, Taylor Gadsen, Jose Calle, Benni Carrion and Aaron Sanchez.
The U.S. open is just one of four Grand Slam tennis tournaments. The other three are the French Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon. It is the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year.
“For everyone on the trip, this was their first time ever on U.S. Open grounds, and it was amazing to see the excitement, joy and curiosity of the students—and their parents, who accompanied them on the trip,” said Stryjecka. “This was truly an unforgettable day, and it has only deepened their interest in tennis.”

Saint Peter’s Prep Soccer Looking To Bounce Back
After a hot start to the season, the Saint Peters Prep Marauders soccer team fell 1-0 to Garden City, a New York team who’s No. 4 seed in the U.S.
Senior goalkeeper Anthony Novello made three saves in the contest, but ultimately couldn’t claim the win.

The Marauders opened up regular season play earlier this month against Dickinson High School with a 4-1 win. They followed up with a victory against the North Bergen Bruins 1-0 at Hudson County Park in their Wednesday evening matchup this past week.
Novello’s nine saves helped the Marauders get past the Bruins. Senior forward Anthony Bautista earned his fifth goal of the year in the 20th minute of the match.
The Marauders return to action on Monday for a road game against Bayonne at Veterans Stadium behind Bayonne High School.
