Hudson County’s high school sports and recreational programs are in full effect. Here’s some news you’ve missed this week.
Bayonne’s Buddy Baseball Athletes Break World Record
The athletes of the Division of Recreation Buddy Baseball were a part of history this past Monday at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, New Jersey for “Yogi’s Big Catch.”
They helped set a new Guinness World Record of people playing catch simultaneously! Bayonne’s Buddy Baseball helped set a new record of 2,358 people, breaking the old record of 1,946 people.
“What a great day to see a smile on everyone’s faces,” one user commented on Facebook.



Hoboken High School’s Football Team Off To Best Start In 15 Years
The Hoboken Redwings have opened up their 2025-2026 season with a 5-0 record. Their 21-14 win against Glen Ridge on Friday gave them their best start to a season since 2010!
Senior quarterback Isaiah Blanks scored three touchdowns. Blanks also broke a 14-14 tie in the third quarter by throwing a short scoring pass to Junior running back Devin McMillian.

Defensively, the Redwings have also been a force on the field. They recorded their first shutout since 2020 in their last Friday, Sept. 19 matchup against Poly Prep.
The Redwings look to continue their winning streak against Verona next Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
Kearny High School Boys Soccer Looking To Keep Momentum
Ahead of the Kearny Kardinals’ 2025-26 season, they told The Observer that they continue to have the same hope: aim for the win.

And while 20 seniors have graduated and they have an entirely new roster, the Kardinals keep their hopes high with their 5-2-1 record (4-2 in HCIAL) and are coming off of a recent 2-1 win against Jersey City’s Dickinson High School.
Overall, the Kardinals rank fourth, sitting behind No. 3 Hoboken (6-2), No. 2 Union City (7-2) and No. 1 St. Peter’s Prep (7-1-1).
Kearny will face the Hoboken Red Wings in an away game on Monday Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
