Good News Kearny Businesses! Update Your Storefronts With This New Grant
The Kearny Urban Enterprise Zone (KUEZ) is currently investing in the look and feel of the town’s business districts with the launch of the Kearny Storefront Project.
The project is a new grant program that is funded entirely through the Urban Enterprise Zone and will award up to $15,000 per business to cover both design and construction costs.
“Many businesses have the vision to upgrade their exteriors but simply do not have the capital needed for these kinds of impactful improvements,” KUEZ Coordinator Linda Kraus D’Isa stated.
“By providing these grants, the KUEZ is supporting local businesses while making our town’s commercial districts more inviting and competitive.”
The program was officially launched on March 28 and has already received a lot of interest, D’Isa added.
The grant is open “to all KUEZ-member businesses operating in commercial or mixed-use properties within the zone and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis,” according to Kearny Life.
Applicants must:
- Be registered in the State of New Jersey
- Current on all municipal taxes and fees
- In good standing with no open violations or liens
- Properties must also be in sound structural condition.
- A one-time administrative fee of $150 is required to participate in the program
Funding can be used for several exterior upgrades. This includes:
- Signage and awnings
- Lighting and electrical work
- Exterior painting
- Architectural restoration
- Window and door replacements
- Glass graphics
- Display design
- Exterior furniture and décor
- Accessibility ramps
The current round is limited to 10 grants, but additional phases are planned if the first phase is a success.

ShopRite Stores In These Two Hudson County Towns Raise Almost $20K
Two ShopRite locations in Bayonne and Jersey City celebrated a successful fundraising campaign that was aimed at fighting hunger across New Jersey.
The Bayonne and Jersey City locations collectively raised almost $20,000 as part of the annual Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest, which is a nationwide initiative with General Mills.

The campaign added to a greater effort that helped ShopRite raise more than $1.34 million to support food banks and hunger relief organizations.
To recognize the two locations, select store employees were honored by having their photos featured on special edition Cheerios boxes, which were unveiled on March 27.
Those recognized included:
- Mary Ellen Klein and Kat Tirado from the Bayonne location
- Bob Dubon from the Jersey City location
The events were held at both store locations and included donations to local organizations, including The Sharing Place Inc. and Community FoodBank of New Jersey, who both continue to provide critical support to families facing food insecurity.
A Familiar Pancake Chain Is Coming To The Bayonne Waterfront!
The dining options by the Bayonne waterfront just got better! An IHOP is set to open up.
JLL, the real estate company that leased the space noted that IHOP and other businesses have been “underscoring the strength of the sector as brands look to scale quickly in markets that can support high-traffic dining concepts.”
The company stated that IHOP has leased 3,750 square feet of space in South Cove Commons at 211 Lefante Way.
The famous chain will replace a Massage Envy that opened in the shopping center back in 2012, but has since closed.
IHOP has been opening a number of combined restaurants along with another popular chain restaurant—Applebees. IHOP already has 50 stores in the chain in New Jersey.
No further information has been released about the restaurant opening.
