The Venezuelan artist, who currently resides in West New York, had captured a sketch of Nicolás Maduro’s reactions.

“What we’re witnessing right now in America is an assault on immigrant families,” said James Solomon, mayor of Jersey City.

“This is something at a community level that can change and that involves doing what you can for your neighbors.”

“I felt Drew’s rights were violated in so many ways, and standing up against the threat to our civil rights was really the message I had,” said Ervin, a relative of the Jersey City man.

“To me, it directly correlates to extreme racism against Arab people, against Palestinians, the erasure of our culture,” said an attendee at the Jersey City protest.

Slice of Culture visited several parks throughout Jersey City, which some residents have voiced concerns related to maintenance, upkeep and simple follow-through from city officials which have been at the forefront of residents’ feedback when it comes to spotlighting the “forgotten parks.”

Workers who came out to protest are part of the Hudson County Office of Reintegration, a branch of the Department of Housing and Community Reintegration. What they do is provide services aimed at supporting individuals with mental health or substance abuse disorders, or face homelessness, among other life saving resources.

“I just didn’t think I would end up here,” said Jersey City owner Muñoz on a phone call to Slice of Culture.
