Safety And Road Work To Start On John F. Kennedy Boulevard From Sip To Bergen Avenue
Construction for a road and safety project on John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Journal Square began on Monday, Aug. 24.
The improvement project, which is part of the Hudson County Vision Zero initiative, will take place from Sip Avenue to Bergen Avenue for an expected 18 months.
The project aims to:
- install and improve curbs and sidewalks
- stamp concrete walkways
- install ADA-complaint ramps
- instal new traffic signals and street trees
- mill and pave the roadway
“JFK Boulevard is an important corridor for residents, businesses, and visitors throughout Hudson County, and these improvements will help make it safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for everyone who uses it,” said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy in a press release. “We are proud to invest in the infrastructure that our communities rely on every day.”
Construction is expected to take place on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Traffic will remain open throughout the construction period, however drivers could experience minor delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes. Transit riders should be aware of any posted signage for temporary changes during construction.

Receive Water, Sewer And Electric Assistance If Eligible
The SHARES Municipal Customer Assistance Program (MCAP) is offering utility relief, up to $200 per utility, to qualified households experiencing temporary financial crisis.
“Sewer service is one of those things residents rarely think about until the bill becomes difficult to pay,” said Omar Vicioso, Director of Communications at the North Hudson Sewerage Authority. “Every time a household flushes a toilet or runs a washing machine, our collection on system and treatment plants are at work.
“MCAP gives families facing a temporary setback a way to stay current on their sewer charges without falling behind, and we want every household that may qualify to know this support is available.”
The program provides water, sewer and electric assistance to households with municipal utility services and that have an income at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Eligibility is based on household size and income; grants can only be applied to consumption charges and do not cover deposits, reconnection fees or repair. The payment will go directly to the utility company on the customer’s behalf.

Support Families And Children With Back To School Drive
Ceus, a local community center, is collecting donations to help children prepare for back to school, who have had a family member detained or deported by ICE.
They are collecting backpacks, school supplies —notebooks, pencils, rulers— and school uniforms as well as monetary donations to support Apoyo A Las Familias Separadas (AFS) program.

Bayonne Vs. Everyone: Little League World Series
Earlier this month, Bayonne Little League made history as the first Hudson County team in 60 years to reach the Little League World Series after defeating Connecticut on Aug. 14.
The team is the city’s first team to win a New Jersey State Championship and carried a 15 winning game streak until Sunday when they lost 6-0 against Davenport, Iowa. The defeat followed their 3-1 win against West Chester, Pennsylvania last Friday night.
Bayonne and Hudson County locals have shown out on social media and local businesses to showcase their support, with the motto “Bayonne vs. Everybody.”
Although Bayonne dropped in the elimination bracket, they still have a chance at the U.S. Championship as they play against the West Side Little League from Hamilton, Ohio on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.
Jersey City Passes Ordinance To Ban Data Centers
Jersey City joins over 30 other municipalities, including Bayonne, to ban data centers after unanimously voting to ban artificial intelligence (AI) centers from being built on industrial zones.
Ordinance 26-057, which was passed by Jersey City Council on Aug. 19, amends the land development ordinance to remove cyber hotels and data centers from the industrial district.
City officials voted to ban data centers in order to protect jobs and argue against the waste of electricity and water used by AI centers.
“Data centers eat up power, drive up utility bills for every ratepayer in this state and employ almost nobody,” stated a statement from Jersey City Mayor James Solomon. “Our industrial land should be put to work for the people who live here by creating real jobs with real wage.”
Joel Brooks, Jersey City Councilman Ward B, said in the statement, “Data centers consume enormous amounts of electricity and water while giving very little back to the communities that host them.”
“Jersey City is taking action to protect our industrial zones, and now we need a statewide moratorium to slow this rush of devekopoent before it drives up costs and strains resources across New Jersey.”
Jersey City Celebrated Pride
On Saturday, Aug. 22, Jersey City’s downtown was filled with vibrant colors and community as Jersey City Pride held its annual march and pride festival.
Organizations, community, city officials, allies and families gathered together to celebrate “LGBTQ+ visibility, culture and community.” in the 26th Jersey City Pride Festival.
The festival theme was “Show Your True Colors — Now More Than Ever” focusing on community-centered experiences, inclusive storytelling and live performances. The celebration had live entertainment, dancing, vendors, activities and programming.
