You Could Be Featured In NJ Transit’s 2027 Calendar!
NJ Transit just announced their 2027 Calendar Photo Contest, and they want to feature your best NJ Transit photo in their annual calendar!
The photo must be high-resolution and landscape orientation, and must have been taken in 2025 or 2026.Submitting your photo, means you grant NJ Transit permission to share your image—with credit—on their social media channels after the contest concludes.
There will be 3 winners and they will receive:
- NJ Transit travel credit
- Featured photo and recognition in the 2027 NJ Transit calendar
- Calendars to share with family and friends
- NJ Transit swag bag
You can enter the contest by emailing your high-resolution, landscape-oriented photo to [email protected] from now until Sept. 1. Winners will be announced on NJ Transit social media the week of Sept. 7.
Jersey City’s Pack-A-Pouch Event Is Back!
The sixth annual Pack A Pouch Event, hosted by The Y Project in collaboration with Hunger Free and Zion Cares, is back next Saturday, Aug. 15 starting at 12 p.m. at the Mary McLeod Bethune Center, located at 140 Martin Luther King Drive.
The goal of this event is to provide 200 new or gently used purses or backpacks filled with essential items for men and women, along with 200 grocery bags for people and families in need throughout the community.
Donations are being accepted until Thursday, Aug. 13 at The Bethune Center. They are looking for items including:
- Hand lotion
- Hand sanitizer
- Lip gloss/balm
- Tissue
- Nail kit
- Nail polish
- comb/brush
- Toothbrush
- $5 bill
- Smell goods
- Hygiene products
- Deodorant
They’re also looking for non-perishable items including:
- Boxed cereal
- Rice
- Pasta
- Pasta sauce
- Canned goods
- Water
- Juice
- Oatmeal
- Beans
- Bread

How This Non-Profit Is Giving Back To The Community
BITE Food Bank is hosting Free Food and Resource Saturdays every week starting at 11 a.m. Those attending are asked to bring extra large and sturdy shopping carts or wagons. This is open to the public!
The non-profit will also be giving out free adult diapers and depends every Monday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Those in need can head over to BITE at 1241 West Side Avenue in Jersey City on Saturdays and Mondays.
Residents Above This North Bergen Coffee Shop Need Your Help!
On July 10, an electrical fire broke out at Cortaditos North Bergen, located at 7700 Bergenline Avenue, and left a family displaced.
A GoFundMe has been created and the funds raised will go directly toward covering a hotel, Airbnb or any “safe place” the family needs as well as essential expenses like food and transportation.
“At Cortaditos, our people and community always come first. No matter the circumstance, we believe in serving those around us and showing up when it matters most. We would deeply appreciate any support you can offer to help our tenants through this challenging time. We’re here to serve,” the GoFundMe reads.
You can donate to help the family above Cortaditos here. They have a goal of $10,000.

New Jersey Is Looking For More Firefighters
A callout for more firefighters was posted on July 1 and the state of New Jersey is taking applications until Aug. 31.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old but not over 35 years old, with an exception. Candidates can file only one application to be considered for employment; they can be chosen for one or more jurisdictions, depending on their residency.
Hudson County has a number of open full-time paid firefighter positions, including:
- Bayonne
- Harrison
- Hoboken
- Jersey City
- Kearny
