#HudsonCounty On Tuesday, NJ/NY experienced unhealthy air quality because of Canada’s wildfire smokes. Poor air quality can be dangerous to senior citizens, children and people with health problems.

Hudson County schools are open today, but all outdoor activities have been canceled.

Early voting in Hudson County is over, but you still have time for the county primary election on June 6, 2023, and here’s the youngest name you’ll be seeing on the ballot: Stephanie Martinez (@so.phanie ) 👀

Martinez had been contemplating running for some time. She recalled taking part in one of North Bergen’s local public meetings and asking Mayor Nick Sacco on what the town is doing to prevent climate change catastrophes.

After receiving a response she felt was unsatisfactory, she was finally pushed to run for the 8th District seat after she attended the county meeting where the Board had scrapped their original plans for the Boulevard East redesign.

East Newark: Borough officials will hold a wreath-laying ceremony at Borough Hal at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Borough Hall is located at 34 Sherman Ave.

Harrison: Borough officials will host a Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony at Borough Hall at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Borough Hall is located at 34 Sherman Ave.

Hoboken: The city’s 123rd annual Memorial Day Parade will be held Wednesday. The parade, hosted by American Legion Post 107 and the city, will assemble at 6 p.m. and step off at 6:30 p.m., marching from City Hall at 94 Washington St. to the viewing stand at the Hoboken Elks Lodge at 10th and Washington streets.

Kearny: Retiring of the flag and the close of Memorial Day weekend will occur on Tuesday, May 30, at 7 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, 141 Washington Ave., at the Father Washington Monument. It will be hosted by Boy Scout Troop 305.

The event was created to honor and celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of the AAPI communities in New Jersey and included Filipino, Korean and Indian cultural performances by the Filipino School of NY and NJ, K-MZ and Kulture Kool.

#talkaboutit • “Lilo & Stitch” was Disney’s first representation for indigenous Hawaiians, but the recent castings for the 2024 live-action have received a lot of backlash.

Though the animated movie and series did well in portraying authentic Hawaiians, after Agudong and Machado were casted for the live-action, it sparked outrage and a hefty debate about colorism in the entertainment industry, which has happened more times than not, especially in Disney adaptations like 2019’s live-action “Aladdin.” Agudong has been reported to have Native Hawaiian ancestry, but many have argued that the role should’ve been given to a Native Hawaiian with a darker complexion.
